In the picturesque harbour of Mèze, with its cosy restaurants and cafés, on the shores of the Thau lagoon along the Mediterranean, in the Languedoc, we entirely renovated the interior of our old Fisherman's house.
It is centrally located, with shops, the local market and free parking within easy walking distance. A 5 minute walk gets you to two child-friendly sandy beaches.
Great for hikes, swimming, sailing, diving, kite-surfing, historical visits, fishing, sampling great seafood and all this at your doorstep at very reasonable prices, because the area is still unspoiled by mass tourism.

Mèze is one of the oldest fishing villages in the south of France, about 25km SW of Montpellier between Sète and Agde, in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. It is a lovely sheltered part of the Mediterranean, closed off from the open sea. Great for hikes, swimming, sailing, diving, kite-surfing, historical visits, fishing, sampling great seafood. Our house dates back to well before 1800 and was completely restored 3 years ago. It now has 5 apartments in total, three of which are rented out on a long term basis to some very nice tenants. Only our ground floor and a first floor studio are available for seasonal lets.

With the harbour just around the corner of our house, and the busy market square very nearby, it is very centrally located. Hence the attraction for people who don't want to use their car once they are in Mèze (photo below right).

In the vicinity of Mèze there is a great choice of activities: Archaeological / historical sites: Within easy driving distance for day trips, choose the Pont du Gard, (the famous aqueduct), the Roman city of Nîmes, the medieval city of Carcassonne, or right nearby, walk a part of the Roman Via Domitia and visit the Gallo-Roman villa of Loupian, to name but a few.
For children, apart from swimming, walks, cycling or visiting one of the many fun places in the Hérault and trips to the two beaches in Mèze, a trip to the well known nearby Dinosaur Parc is a must.
For art, museums and cultural events: The light and landscapes of the Languedoc have inspired many famous artists. Discover their paintings in one of the museums and galleries of the region: Pay a visit to the Art and History Museum in Narbonne, or the Archaeology Museum in the Cap d'Agde, the Fabre Museum in Montpellier (photo left) where you find lots of works from Courbet an Frederic Bazille and try to see some of the great museums of contemporary art such as the Carré of Arts in Nîmes (below right) and the Modern Art Museum in Ceret.
All year round there are local festivals to be enjoyed in Mèze and its neighbouring towns and villages. In summer, watch the Jousts in the harbour or listen to good Jazz at one of the many great music festivals in the area. The Mèze " Ecosite " with its unique used-water filtration system is educational and interesting for anyone keen on sustainable development and the preservation of our environment, whilst enjoying a great holiday.
