The Limousin region offers lush green countryside
with many lakes, forests and rivers. It is ideal for the
keen walker or fisherman but also appealing to someone who
wants complete relaxation in an un-spoilt part of France.
Limoges is a 50 minute drive from Le
Petit Lac and offers all the shopping and restaurants
expected from a city. Also don’t forget to pick up
the famous Limoges pottery. Nearby Lac Vassiviere
(photos below) is a man made lake of 1000 hectares where
you can enjoy windsurfing, canoeing, water-skiing, sailing,
boat trips, rambling, riding, cycling and of course fishing!
In the summer period the beach area has lifeguards for safe
bathing (photo below right is the popular Plage
d'Auphelle), volleyball and a fun park for the children.
You can take a tour of the lake by boat and there is a restaurant
boat where you can enjoy either lunch or dinner.
The island on Vassiviere is a great place to visit
with animals, an art gallery and of course beautiful views.
The island itself covers 173 acres of land, formerly part
of vast estates once owned by the Vassiviere family whose
stately home still stands on the original site.
