Beautiful lawns and meadows, a vegetable garden largely
contributing to meals and a flower garden riotous with colour.
If you feel like taking your breakfast or your drinks away
from your own patio, you can wonder to the shaded terrace
by the swimming pool, you can lie under the sun on the pool
loungers or even retreat to the shade of the seating areas
and the hammocks under the ancient trees.

The garden, fields, swimming pool and pond are on the rear face of
the barn, creating a very private space, safe to let children roam
and play and explore.
We are lucky to have 4 distinct wonderful seasons in the Limousin,
all with their own charms. The terrain changes with each season offering
the most captivating of live “paintings”. |

The list of activities is almost endless. To mention just
a few easily accessible from Lys d'avril: 10 golf courses,
countless lakes for fishing, horse riding, hot air balloons,
flying lessons, antique shops, fun parks, museums, cafes
and restaurants for people watching and gourmet eating.
This stunningly beautiful region of still lakes, fast flowing
streams, gentle rolling valleys and forested mountains has
been one of the best kept secrets in France. From the lovely
old city of Limoges to the tiny hamlets scattered across
the hills and forests, and the pure rivers and lakes, discover
the friendliness and old world charm of one of the last
remaining havens of the “real France”.
The Limousin is also known as “the land of a thousand
lakes” and wherever you are in the region there will
be one close by. Most are bathing lakes with clear, clean
water and often with sandy beaches. “Land of a thousand
lakes”? – maybe a small exaggeration but actually
not far short of the mark. The Limousin is more than blessed
with a countless variety of pure water lakes, from small
fishing venues to huge lakes catering for all kinds of watersport
–many with sandy beaches and lifeguard monitoring
to provide safe and pleasant bathing for children. Best
of all – they are FREE.

Whether you just want to picnic on a grassy area with outstanding
views and the peace of the countryside around you, spend a quiet day
fishing, or indulge in one of the many pursuits available at some
of the lakes, then you will be spoilt for choice.
Wherever you go in the Limousin there WILL be a lake nearby. Don’t
expect to be able to take it all in during one visit, or even ten.
Exploring the Limousin, its rivers and lakes will take a lifetime!

From Limoges, the capital city of the Limousin, to the thousands
of tiny hamlets dotted around the landscape, there is a
rich variety of villages – many classified as the
most beautiful villages in France. The great advantage is
that they are much less affected by tourism than many other
parts of France.

In Limoges (photo shows the bridge Saint-Étienne over
the Vienne River) and the surrounding villages you will find
beautiful architecture, streetside cafes and bars, parks and
all of those indefinable things that make you fall in love with
rural France and most important of all – the warm welcome
of the Limousin people.
A bit further afield, you can take a day trip towards the Lot,
Dordogne and Charente; all within a car journey away and all
with wonders to be discovered and tranquil lifestyle to be part
of. |
