Civray (photo below left) boasts a cinema,
outdoor swimming-pool in summer, library with internet access,
small museum and sports centre and is ideal for country
pursuits of all kinds. A twice-weekly market is a chance
to meet the locals and hunt for souvenirs. The river winding
through the town attracts walkers and fishermen alike and
the outdoor recreation pond at St. Macoux
with its swimming, canoeing and fishing is a lovely spot
to take a picnic.
In the heart of Romanesque Poitou-Charentes, the area is
rich in culture with many churches, chateaux and pretty
villages to explore. Futuroscope (photo
below right), Monkey Valley, The Pheasant Garden, the Melle
Silver Mines and Charlemagne's Tower are all just a short
drive away.
