still today - to Ceret, home of the famous modern art museum.

Night Life, Shopping and History - Perpignan
(photo below left), with its shopping, nightlife and history
on a grand scale (from the 13th century, its “Palace
of the Kings of Majorca” is the oldest royal dwelling
in France), is a magnificent Mediterranean city just 20
minutes away. The region’s rich local history can
be seen and felt, from your village home to the churches,
castles, Cathar ruins, medieval fortresses, and intriguing
prehistoric sites. Local shops and the twice-weekly open
air markets are wonderful.
Activities & Sites - Enjoy wineries,
nature reserves, golf, horseback riding, Sigean wild animal
park, family parks, and Marina and water sports (sailing,
skiing, diving, fishing, windsurfing).

You are less than 2 hours drive to the ski slopes of the majestic
Pyrénées Mountains, Montpellier (photo of La
Place de la Comedie in the centre of Montpellier is shown
right) and Barcelona.
And Paris, Provence, the Dordogne, and Bordeaux are just a rapid-train
away.

By Air:
Fly into Perpignan (25 min drive), Montpellier
(1.5 hour drive) or Barcelona (2 hrs drive). Rent a car
at the airport.
|
By Rail:
Argelès has a local train station near the house. Your
villa has a garage if you do rent a small car, or parking
is easy in the village. Or the local Argelès “mini
train” runs all year for easy access between town and
beach (and often free!). Otherwise, you are steps from everything
you need and just a peaceful 20 minute walk to the sea!
